After the destruction of the home they've known for generations upon generations, the vikings of Berk were forced to move. New Berk is situated on a massive elevated island known as 'Big Black Isle', previously only accessible by dragon back, now it is outfitted with elevator systems of sorts to get down to the docks below. The island's elevated position makes it impossible to attack by surprise, and the thick forests that dot a large portion of it make an excellent hunting ground.
